What we believe at Compass Church about Jesus, the Bible, and the Church

Our Beliefs

JESUS CHRIST

We center all our beliefs around Jesus. He is our True North. Our primary ministry is to serve and follow Him. All of our ministries and goals flow out of our time with the Lord. He is the Messiah prophesied, the one and only God, in the exact representation of God, fully human and fully God. He was born from a virgin, lived a sinless life, and He died and rose again to reconcile all people to God and to free them from the power of sin and the devil. He will return again to reign over His Kingdom.

THE TRINITY

We believe in one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He is totally loving and completely holy.

The bible

We believe that the Bible is God’s Word. It is accurate, authoritative, and applicable to our everyday lives.

THE SEPARATION

We believe that sin has separated each of us from God and His purpose for our lives.

THE RECONCILIATION

We believe that in order to receive forgiveness and a fresh start with God, we must believe in Jesus, and commit to His will for our lives. Those trusting Christ should repent of their sin and confess their faith. They should then be baptized as a first step toward following Jesus.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is God's presence with us today. He is God and an equal part of the Trinity. The Spirit seals us, baptizes us, leads us into all truth, tells us what Jesus is saying, gives us gifts to serve the body of Christ with, empowers us to live like Jesus, and so much more. We believe the gifts of the Spirit have not ceased, but they are still in use today in the lives of all followers of Jesus. At the point of salvation, each follower of Jesus receives the Holy Spirit.

THE CHURCH

The church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit to participate in the mission of reaching the lost and discipling the saved. As the Bride of Christ, we eagerly await His return.

Communion (The Eucharist)

Every week as a church, we partake of communion, the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ as a way of remembering the New Covenant we have been born into through the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. We believe the Blood of Jesus was offered to mankind for the forgiveness of sins, and the broken Body of Jesus was offered for the salvation and healing of mankind. We practice an open communion for anyone who considers themselves followers of Jesus, and we gather around a common table, judging ourselves rightly in light of all Jesus has done for us.
